Our team at Collin County Ear, Nose, and Throat is focused on quality care for every patient, which is why we provide top-notch technology in our office.
Not only do you have the convenience of services from an experienced staff, but we use tools that are designed to improve the outcome of every treatment.
One example is the office-based CT navigation used in our clinic.
Digital Imaging for Optimal Surgical Results
Every patient is unique, which is why it is important for the doctor to have a clear layout of the sinuses and nasal passages before a surgical treatment is completed. We utilize CT navigation, which is like a GPS system that maps the anatomy of the patients’ head. The surgeon uses the images to determine the specific location of critical structures within the nose and sinuses.
First, images are obtained using our in-office CT scanner. Then, the information is loaded into an image-guided computer.
During the surgical procedure, a detection array is placed on the patient’s head. The CT scan images are calibrated based on the patient’s unique anatomy, using pre-set reference points on the face. This technology gives the surgeon the ability to track the position of the surgical instruments through the computer readings.
Benefits of Office-Based CT Navigation
These image-guided systems can be useful for certain sinus surgery procedures, but CT navigation isn’t necessary for every treatment. The doctor will determine the specific services that are needed for the patients’ health condition, as well as technology that should be used to facilitate the treatment plan.
For example, if someone has straightforward anatomy, then image guidance might not be necessary. CT navigation is most beneficial when a patient has complicated anatomy, such as thinning of the bone, tumor growths, nasal polyps or other potential points that could cause complications. It may also be utilized for surgery involving the frontal, sphenoid and ethmoid sinuses.
At Collin County Ear, Nose, and Throat, we offer CT navigation in our office to give you the convenience of hospital-grade services without the need to visit a hospital. Not only is it cheaper to have these treatments completed in our office, but many patients prefer a private office setting over the experience of visiting the hospital for an out-patient procedure. Our clinic is designed to ensure your comfort before, during, and after the treatment.
