Problems with Chronic Rhinitis
Chronic rhinitis is a condition that causes inflammation in the mucosa within the nose. This inflammation causes an increase in mucus secretion and leads to other symptoms, such as:
- Runny nose
- Congestion
- Post-nasal drip
- Sneezing
- Nasal itching
Rhinitis can be caused by allergies or another factor that increases local inflammation. For those patients who fail to respond to sprays ClariFix becomes an option.
ClariFix: What is it?
ClariFix is a clinically-proven method that can treat specific areas of inflammation in the back of the nose. A small cooling probe is inserted to freeze small spots of inflammation. Localized freezing (known as cryotherapy) can help to reduce the pain and inflammation, which helps to reduce the symptoms of rhinitis.
Medical experts have found that nasal secretions are regulated by the nerves within the nasal passageways. When the nerve signals are interrupted with localized freezing, it helps to reduce common symptoms associated with rhinitis.
Benefits of ClariFix
Why is cryotherapy an effective and popular treatment for rhinitis? Here are some of the benefits you can expect if you choose this treatment:
- Minimally invasive procedure
- Safe treatment with few side effects
- In-office treatment (no need to go to the hospital)
- Topical and local anesthesia are used to ensure minimal discomfort during the treatment
- 4 out of 5 patients experience long-lasting relief from symptoms
Since it is designed as a single-treatment service, most people experience improvement in symptoms after the treatment (without a need to schedule repeat treatments in the future).
What to Expect During Your Treatment?
The ClariFix appointment will be completed in the comfort of our office. First, the ENT uses an anesthetic to numb the treatment area. After the medication takes effect, an endoscope and the ClariFix device are inserted in your nose. The camera on the endoscope allows the doctor to see the inflamed area.
The end of the ClariFix device is activated to deliver freezing cryotherapy onto the affected nerves. The procedure only lasts for a few minutes and can be repeated in both nostrils during the same appointment if necessary.
Most people find that they don’t experience any pain during the treatment. Instead, they describe the feeling as a little bit of discomfort: a cooling sensation and slight pressure within the nose, and these sensations can sometimes be felt near the molar teeth as well.
Recovery and Side Effects
Possible side effects after a ClariFix treatment include localized pain while the nasal passages are healing, as well as an increase in congestion temporarily. A successful treatment decreases or eliminates your need to use medications and nasal sprays in the future.
Keep in mind that the results can vary from patient to patient, which is why your ENT will provide custom recommendations for your treatment plan.
Talk to an ENT: Is ClariFix Right for You?
This treatment is often recommended for people suffering from rhinitis symptoms and haven’t found relief through other medications. ClariFix is a treatment option for non-allergic (vasomotor) rhinitis, which doesn’t respond to common methods used for other types of rhinitis.
